Beer of the Week, February 6, 2021

Our Bottlecraft North Park manager, Gene, selects his favorite beer of the week. You can stay up to date on our beer shop favorites through our news feed and also through our Instagram.

  1. Burgeon Keep It Nelson | West Coast IPA (6.5%)

Burgeon Beer Co.‘s rotating line of single-hop IPAs, the “Keep It” series, is an exemplary canvas upon which to paint the possibilities of a given hop varietal. With a backdrop of two-row and pale wheat malts forming a foundational layer, the hops are allowed to come to the foreground. With hand-selected Nelson Sauvin from the south island of New Zealand, expect classic aromas of sauvignon blanc, gooseberries and a restrained grape-skin tannic bitterness.

  2. Enegren Willamette Pilsner | German-style Pilsner (4.8%): The IPA is not the only style of beer in which single-hop explorations can be done, as Enegren Brewing so amply demonstrates. Emanating from the eponymous valley in Oregon, Willamette is descended from Fuggles (the mainstay of English hops) and shares the herbaceous characteristics of its ancestor. When applied atop Enegren’s pilsner base, the result is balance and levity, with fruitiness and earthiness in equal measure.

  3. Firestone Walker Parabola | Barrel-aged Imperial Stout (13.6%): A legend among stouts, Parabola by Firestone Walker Brewing is an annual treat. Boasting a bevy of roasted barley malts and a touch of oats, followed by a full year in used bourbon barrels, this beer can be enjoyed at once or set aside for further aging for many years to come. Parabola is the touchstone of Firestone Walker’s Barrelworks in Buellton, and lends itself into every anniversary blend that the brewery releases, making it a beer that can be experienced in a wide variety of means.
